It’s time for an update on what’s been going on with my writing lately. This summer, I turned my focus to short stories, and I’m going to stick with that plan until I decide what my next WIP will be. As much as I loved writing my first novel and brainstorming for several others, I think it’s important for me to spend some time studying the market, improving my writing, networking, and getting more of my shorter work published before I attempt another novel. Which leads me to some exciting news….
One of my short stories won first place in the Writer’s Games and will be published in their anthology, 72 Hours of Insanity!(For more details on the competition, see my other post.) In addition, one of my stories earned an honorable mention, and I took sixth place overall. I’ll let you know when the anthology becomes available on Amazon. Can’t wait!
Next on my agenda is the lofty goal to submit to Writers of the Future until I win or “pro out.” They accept new entries every quarter, so I will devote my speculative efforts to WOTF and submit to other markets as I have time. I’m excited for this new opportunity and hope to connect with other writers who have this goal, so if that’s you, drop a comment and let’s get in touch!
Other than that, I’ve been doing a lot more reading (check out my latest book reviews!) to see what the current market is like, and I can safely say I’ve crossed romance off my list of genres I like to write in. Honestly, I’ll probably stick to fantasy and sci-fi, but right now I’m enjoying branching out.
So that’s what’s going on with me. I’ll keep you updated as I continue to read, write, and repeat.
